📶 Scruffy’s Digital Journy — Installing Wi‑Fi & Router Setup

Hi, I’m Scruffy. Christopher explained that Wi‑Fi comes from a router — the box that connects your home to the Internet. At first, I thought it was just magic. But Christopher reminded me: you need to plug in the right wires to make the router work.

🌀 The Wires You’ll See

  • Power Cable

    • Usually black.

    • Connects the router to the wall socket.

  • Ethernet Cable

    • Usually yellow (sometimes blue).

    • Connects the router to your computer or to the modem.

  • DSL / Broadband Cable

    • Often grey.

    • Connects the router to the phone socket or wall outlet.

🌀 Step‑by‑Step Guide: Installing a Router

Step 1: Plug in the Power

  • Connect the black power cable to the router.

  • Plug the other end into the wall socket.

  • Switch it on.

Step 2: Connect to the Internet Source

  • If you have broadband via phone line:

    • Use the grey DSL cable.

    • Plug it into the router’s DSL port and the wall phone socket.

  • If you have fibre or cable broadband:

    • Connect the router to the modem using the yellow Ethernet cable.

Step 3: Connect to a Computer (Optional)

  • Use another yellow Ethernet cable.

  • Plug one end into the router’s LAN port.

  • Plug the other end into your computer.

  • This gives a wired connection.

Step 4: Configure Wi‑Fi

  • On your computer or phone, open Wi‑Fi settings.

  • Find the router’s network name (SSID) — printed on the router label.

  • Enter the Wi‑Fi password (also on the label).

🖱️ Scruffy’s Router Challenge

"Christopher gave me a challenge to practice. You can try it too:"

  1. Plug in the black power cable.

  2. Connect the grey DSL cable to the wall socket.

  3. Use the yellow Ethernet cable to connect your computer.

  4. Turn the router on.

  5. Connect to Wi‑Fi using the SSID and password on the router label.

✨ Scruffy’s Reflection

At first, I thought Wi‑Fi just appeared. But Christopher reminded me: routers need power, a broadband cable, and sometimes Ethernet. Now I know which colour wire goes where — black for power, grey for broadband, yellow for Ethernet.
