🧸 Scruffy’s Digital Journy — Children Being Safe Online

Hi, I’m Scruffy. Christopher explained that being online can feel like exploring a big playground. At first, I thought every corner was safe. But Christopher reminded me: sometimes there are unsafe voices, messages, or adverts — and children need trusted places to turn.

🌍 Safety for Children Online

  • Keep boundaries: Never share your full name, address, school, or passwords online.

  • Check with a trusted adult: If a message or website feels strange, show it to a parent, carer, or teacher.

  • Don’t click suspicious links: Always ask before opening something new.

  • Block and report: If someone is unkind or asks for private details, block them and report.

  • Notebook & Pen ritual: Write down anything that feels unsafe — numbers, names, or websites — and share with a trusted adult.

📞 Official UK Helplines for Children

  • Childline (Run by NSPCC):

  • Shout (Textline for young people):

    • Text SHOUT to 85258 (free, 24/7)

  • HOPELINE247 (Papyrus — Suicide Prevention for under 35s):

    • Call 0800 068 4141

    • Text 07860 039967

🖱️ Scruffy’s Safety Challenge

"Christopher gave me a challenge to practice. You can try it too:"

  1. Write down Childline’s number (0800 1111) in your notebook.

  2. Practice saying: “If I feel unsafe online, I can call Childline.”

  3. Share one safety ritual with a friend — like blocking and reporting.

  4. Ask a trusted adult to help you explore childline.org.uk.

Scruffy’s Reflection   At first, I thought children had to face unsafe moments alone. But Christopher reminded me: helplines are sanctuary doors — always open, always safe.

For learners, knowing Childline (0800 1111) and Shout (85258) means they can reach out anytime, with Scruffy guarding the vault beside them.

 Report . Protect . Safe
