Getting Started with Your First Laptop

Getting your very first laptop or main computer is exciting! These days, most people prefer laptops because they’re easier to use on the go, compared to desktops which need to be set up in one place.

If you’re new to this, it’s okay — many have been there. I remember getting a new computer for my birthday, and halfway through setting it up, it asked for the activation key. I searched the box but didn’t think to check the bottom — what a rookie mistake!

Luckily, with modern devices, activation is often automatic, so there’s no need to hunt for a key. An activation key simply verifies that your copy of Windows 11 is genuine and official.

🧰 Open Up

To set up, open the box and take out your laptop. Make sure you have everything — the quick start guide, the charger, and any extras.

Plug the charger into the small port on your laptop, then connect the other end to a power outlet.

🔘 Power On

Switching on your laptop is the exciting part! Open it, find the power button — usually in the top-right corner — and press it.

Soon your laptop will spring to life. If you feel nervous during setup, you can always ask a friend or family member to sit with you for support.
