🌐 Getting Online

Once your laptop is set up and updated, it’s time to explore the internet. This is where you’ll find information, connect with people, and use services like email or online shopping.

šŸ–„ļø Opening a Web Browser

Your laptop comes with Microsoft Edge, the default browser.

  • Click the Start Menu

  • Type EdgeĀ and select it

  • The browser will open with a homepage

šŸ”Ž Searching the Web

At the top of the browser is the address bar. You can:

  • Type a website address (like bbc.co.uk)

  • Or type a question (like ā€œHow to boil an eggā€) and press Enter

šŸ“¶ Staying Safe

  • Only click on websites you trust

  • Look for a small padlock symbolĀ in the address bar — it means the site is secure

  • If something feels suspicious, close the page and try another

🧭 Practice Ideas

  • Search for your local library or council website

  • Visit a trusted news site like BBC News

  • Try looking up a recipe or hobby you enjoy

šŸ’” Tip: The internet is huge, so take it step by step. Start with familiar sites and build confidence gradually.
