A Reflection for Switzerland
Today was meant to mark a fresh beginning — a moment when people everywhere look forward with hope. Instead, the first day of this new year has been overshadowed by profound loss in Switzerland.
It is difficult to find words that feel equal to a tragedy of this scale. Lives were cut short in a moment meant for joy. Families who gathered to celebrate now face unimaginable grief. A community that should have woken to light and laughter has instead been met with shock, sorrow, and silence.
My thoughts are with the people of Switzerland — with every family waiting for news, every survivor carrying memories no one should ever have to hold, and every responder who stepped into danger to help others. Loss like this ripples far beyond the place where it happened. It reminds us how fragile our celebrations are, and how deeply connected we are in moments of pain.
Tonight, I stand with Switzerland in reflection and compassion. May those who were lost be remembered with love, and may those who remain find strength, comfort, and gentleness in the days ahead.
With love, Christopher
